With a fresh and soulful Caribbean style, singer/ songwriter Jair Pendenque from the captivating Nature Isle Dominica has made an entrance on the International music scene. The artist is currently preparing to release her first EP ‘The Escape’ under the pseudonym Jhaya, a four-track project that explores different musical genres.

Before the EP drop, Jhaya is preparing to release two new singles. Soulful Dancehall track “Me Ah Pray” will be the first release soon on the Ghetto Voice Riddim by producers Fari “knutkase” Winston of G-Rated Studio and Michael “Arch Angel” Lee of Archangel Musiq.

The second titled “When You Leave” on the Rainforest Riddim by Cave Music, is set for tentative releas, and features French singer/rapper Lion Asher Disciple.

Jhaya is the writer behind Dominican Artist Starsha’s 2020 Soca single ‘System Failure’, which dropped in August on the Dwivayez Riddim by producers D Lo and Savion Beats. The song, which featured a video release on January 25th 2021, is a testament to the Caribbean waistline, whine and tempo.

The artist continues to write music, and currently works with Starsha and singer/songwriter Hannah Francis in the UK.

And while her sound and lyrics are something all her own, it was inspired by several artists, including Caribbean female Reggae artists Lila Ike and Queen Ifrica.

Jhaya refers to her music as ‘inspired’ rather than ‘special’, as in her own words no one is special; rather, “We all have a different perspective, and finding similar views helps us to belong”
